"The children and adults really seemed to enjoy meeting the rescue members and some of the children tried on the rescue members safety equipment." Chief Cole added. "We look forward to seeing all the children again next year."

The Lebanon Rescue Department held their 5th Annual Halloween Open House on Thursday October 30th and Friday October 31st from 5pm-7pm. The event was attended by over 300 people, with the rescue department handing out 289 public safety bags to children during the event. (289 children plus several parents visited). The safety bags had activity and coloring books, Carbon Monoxide safety info, emergency dial 911 stickers, Junior Paramedic badges and EMS stickers.

The children and their parents were treated to fresh apples donated by McDougal Orchards of Lebanon and Springvale. They also were treated to candy and lots of public safety education material provided by the rescue department. The children took tours of the rescue departments command vehicle, off-road rescue vehicle and ambulance.

“Each year, we try to give families a safe and fun event to bring their children to on Halloween. The children loved the tours of the ambulance and command vehicle. The weather was great and each year, we seem to attract more people.” Rescue Chief Samantha Cole added.

The open house also provided residents a chance to meet their local rescue volunteers.

“The children and adults really seemed to enjoy meeting the rescue members and some of the children tried on the rescue members safety equipment.” Chief Cole added. “We look forward to seeing all the children again next year.”

Children from several neighboring communities stopped in at the event as well. Children from Sanford, Rochester, Milton, Acton, Berwick and North Berwick attended the event.

On Thursday night, rescue volunteers also participated in the Lebanon Recreation’s costume contest held at the East Lebanon Station. 23 public safety bags were given out to children at that event.

On Friday evening, Gordon Kendall from Lebanon’s American Legion was present at the rescue event and handed out candy from the Legion.

The Lebanon Rescue Department would like to thank McDougal Orchards for their donation of apples, Welch’s Hardware for a donation to help with the event and the Colby family of North Rochester Road who donated candy.
