Selectmen Set-up Town Manager Failure

Last year the residents of Lebanon approved a residents petition for a Town Manager form of government. Selectmen are demonstrating their resistance by preparing a separate warrant article requesting $118,000 for wages and benefits. It is quite easy to see their intent is to have the matter fail.

The compensation amount they are requesting does not fit our towns needs. Selectmen are Continue reading

Foster’s Highlights Budget Committee Troubles

Foster’s Daily Democrat published an article highlighting the Budget Committee troubles. Highlighting the Budget Committee’s intention to take the problems to the people. In my opinion what the Towns Selectmen are doing is highly unusual and troublesome. You Can See the Article Here…

I (Glen Stadig) am a Budget Committee member and I have taken time to meet with Town Managers and have reviewed how other towns handle the Budget process and Lebanon’s is nothing close to what is usual and customary Continue reading

OurVoice on Facebook – Commenting

I have received many inquiries about commenting being turned off on the website. The reason this was done was primarily due to the fact a certain people were posting under several names, unfairly biasing discussion. In some instances the comments were heading out of bounds.

Facebook is a popular platform, by some estimates half of the people who have an internet connection have an account there. Many residents use it and have Continue reading

New Library Spotlighted

The new town Library had it’s ribbon cutting this evening. The Fosters did an informative article highlighting the hard work by the Librarian Jenn Griffin and Superintendent of Schools Paul Andrade. The article also explains the new space and services. Lebanon was very fortunate that Mr. Andrade pushed so hard for the co-op plan and got the funding together. Now our kids and families have a year round facility to meet our needs.  The Fosters article is available here

Salmons Falls Cafe Opens

Minor’s Restaurant changed ownership last year and the evolution and influence of the new ownership is evolving. The new owner Rick Towle says “We purchased the property last year and did not change the name which was a huge mistake. This month the wind blew out our sign and we took that as a sign that is was time for a change.”

The new business, which opened last week is now the Salmon Falls Cafe. They Continue reading

Public Not Allowed Behind Counter – New Policy

Lebanon Selectmen have signed a letter setting policy to not allow public and certain departments behind the counter at the Town Hall. The policy basically states that anyone who doesn’t work at or out of the town hall must remain in the public area. Other department heads and personnel such as Fire, Roads, and Rescue must remain in the public area. The policy was enacted to protect confidential information and materials that may be laying about. Karen gerrish wrote an informative article detailing the change at the Foster’s Website (Click Here To View). She also has information on some local happenings such as Pancake Breakfast, Noble Adult Community Ed Starting, County Budget Process, and Maine Military & Community Connect Network…

Budget Committee Denied Information

The Lebanon Maine Budget Committee has had a couple meetings to organize for the upcoming Budget year and we have repeatedly met resistance with getting information. We started with a request on 11/13/10 and also on 12/5/10. What has been requested on spending is simple, and yet has not been provided, it has been weeks. The freedom of information act and right-to-know requires the information be produced timely. The Selectmen have not told us we cannot have the information, they simply do not provide it.
