Town Report Available

The Town Report is available at the polls and is also available via download in PDF format at this link. This is quite the turnaround from just yesterday when you couldn’t even get the mini-audit that was allegedly published. The gentlemen at the polls stopped me and handed me a book, saying they had them on the shelf for some time.

Ballot Items Reviewed in Foster’s

The Foster’s has done a review of the ballot items for tomorrows vote. One of the key items they didn’t touch upon is the “Conflict of Interest” (Item 1) which is a petition circulated by residents to stop an employee of the town also serving as Selectmen at the same time. The Selectmen added their own (Item 2) to limit an employee of SAD60 from being Selectmen since a teacher is running for office, this to take effect only if item 1 adopted. I recommend you vote “Yes” on one and “NO” on two.  Here is the Foster’s rundown.

Resident Urges – Don’t Have a Short Memory at Polls

There’s an editorial in the Foster’s stressing Lebanon Residents not have a short memory come election day. The editorial near the bottom of the page details actions and in-actions taken by the Selectmen recently that are concerning. There was a similar article on this website that had links to the actual details of the meetings some with video and news articles. You can find that original article here. Cole Campaign Dupes Foster’s Daily Democrat

Today’s letters to the editor contain a duplicate letter written just a week ago by Samantha Cole but this time addressed by Peter and Amanda Turner. The paper didn’t catch it but it is pure plagiarism and certainly set-up by the Cole Campaign supporters. Editorial is supposed to be just that opinion not an avenue to publish campaign fliers weekly. I have pasted the articles below for your convenience…  Turner Letter OnlineCole Letter Online – I think using and duping a respectable Newspaper like the Foster’s in such a way is appalling and shows just how conniving, underhanded and desperate Cole is to hang onto power Continue reading

Don’t Have A Short Memory On Election Day

As you prepare to make your decision for Selectmen next week, look back on the actions of the current board led by Mr Cole and ask yourself …is this the way things should work?  Is this the way I expect things to be managed?  Is it time for a change? I think if you look back you will be outraged.

Taxes increased nearly 35% during Cole’s first year, creating outrage. Residents never got a satisfactory clear answer as to why, and during this process follow-up meetings were scheduled on short notice. See Article Here and Here Continue reading

Public Notices = Endorsements?

A Public notice was sent out at 10:45 pm announcing a Facebook page for Crescent Moon Herbals.. I think it is great that the Town will send out a notice such as this to promote local business, but why not include Farmfield Greenhouses, Thompson Autobody, Fernald Shore, Flat Rock Bridge Campground, Salmon Falls Campground, Potter’s Place Campground, Batchelder Tractor Sales, Profile State Line Superstore, Canine Solutions,  Just Chevy Trucks, Lees Floral Garden, Double G Tack Shop, or many, many of the others with an online presence? If the Town is going to get into promotion of businesses it must be careful to do so in an evenhanded way as to not be construed as buying votes or endorsing a particular enterprise over another. Lebanon Deserves Better

As concerned as I was before about Selectman Jason Cole stifling the voice of the citizens of Lebanon, my concerns are raised to the point of wondering what will happen if we criticize Selectman Jason Cole’s actions further. 100% Transparency – Really??… How about None!

Transparency – generally implies openness, communication, disclosure and accountability

Occam’s Razor – is a principle that suggests we should tend towards simpler theories

There is always desire for greater access and transparency when it comes to Towns and Departments. Lebanon Rescue explained in great detail in large paragraph in the Town Report how the department shares information, meeting minutes, and particularly the financials of the corporation and is 100% transparent. I must say there was a time when they did do some of these things.

Today, I cannot find any evidence of this “Transparency”. Continue reading

Town Employee Definition Expanded

Selectmen Pulling All Stops To Maintain Control

Do you hear the bell tolling?  Our Selectmen in Lebanon certainly do and they are preparing to go to great lengths to maintain their control and influence.

Citizens circulated a petition based on “conflict of interest” and received hundreds of signatures supporting the adopting of an ordinance that would prevent a town employee from also being a Selectmen. It was initiated because the “Conflict of Interest” policy drafted and adopted by Selectmen over a year ago, fell way short of providing any real separation of powers. Citizen’s have been frustrated by the ongoing conflicts that exist and have existed. Continue reading

Rescue Facebook – More Questions than Answers

Lebanon Rescue posed a question on Facebook about equipment usage and having them stand-by at town events. I stated my opinion, that I was not in favor of it and after a couple of rebuttals on my comments, I was blocked from the page. I did not make any off color remarks and I did not use abusive language and was respectful. The admin strayed the topic bringing in general calls, the fire department etc. Ultimately the Admin labeled my comments political…  and blocked me..which is a bunch of BS.

This is the same thing Jason Cole did with the Town Facebook Page, ask for input, you provide it, but if it goes against what they want to hear it is censored and deleted. Continue reading

Town Facebook Page – Shut Down!!

It appears the Town’s Facebook Page has been deactivated. If the “Admin” simply would have shut off commenting, and only post actual town events, meetings, and notices…what is the issue? In my opinion an “Official” page should be “one-way” only to broadcast official information, period. If you want an informal conversation Page start something like the OurVoice Facebook Page, where people can share opinion, openly for the benefit of ALL. It’s true there were issues, but they threw out the baby with bathwater instead of changing the admin, setting policy and correcting the way it was managed.

OurVoice is on Facebook and is the place where residents can post, comment and share.

The Selectmen are meeting tonight.!!!  Agenda states to sign school warrant, election concerns, and absentee ballots.  The notice was sent out at 8:11am today by the email system, but has not made to the Town’s FB Page which is troubling. These type of Notifications must be standardized and are of key importance!! I think they deserve more importance than the Weather Report, BBQ, or number of friends… I also rarely see a bid request for work or projects posted on the Town Facebook Page.  One could discern that lack of notice is being deceptive and NOT being transparent.

Road Referendum Questioned

What happened to the referendum question that the selectmen voted yes to adopt a subdivision road in town that was done not by town specifications?? The budget committee was to vote on the referendum until it was discovered that it would be illegal to be put on the ballot. The road was built in 2004 and now they were pushing to get the road approved. When Mr.Cole was presented the laws of subdivisions of the town and showing it can not be placed on the ballot he stated the selectmen would seek legal advice. Who lives on this road where there is an urgency to have this approved?? Is it a friend or family member of our selectmen?? Once approved by the town who would pay for the fixes to be made to bring it up to code?? Who is paying for the legal advise?? Is this another backdoor deal to benefit only a select few at the taxpayers expense?? Is it no wonder our selectmen try to keep budget committee members as an advisory board only?? When will the shenanigans stop??
