Road Budget, Projects and Spending…Ideas??

Somebody mentioned it might be good to have a topic on Q&A and ideas of  resident input for the Roads. Here ya go…discuss and comment away.. Perhaps the new Road Commissioner can incorporate your ideas and hear your concerns.

I personally would like to see and know a long term, short term and today plan exists for addressing road improvements. I would also like to see all work grouped into manageable projects that can be clearly specified and offered out to bid. I would like to see project identifiers and descriptions placed into the General Ledger so a lay person when looking at payment detail it is easy to see and track where the monies are spent.

Obviously right off the bat, the new road commissioner needs a little time to get their feet under them.

I would look for some immediate projects though. Sand removal from roads, and shoulder rebuilding. I’ve been lucky to maintain control of my vehicle when I’ve hit some shoulders…

From there, an on the ground assessment of every road, and prioritization of projects. If possible set some dollar amounts to the projects to help prioritize in the event there’s a tie in projects that need to be done because of safety.

Thank you for this new subject area on roads.
As I was looking through the Vender list in the new town report, I was adding up some of the people that had worked on the road. Our re-elected selectman has a company with his name on it and received $13,267.

Does anyone know who Interstate Soils LLC is? They were paid $77,634. They are located at 16 Commerce way, in Milton NH.

Granite State Minerals received $88,132. (Rock Salt Coal And Petroleum Products) Portsmouth, NH.
…… I wonder if that is the sand and salt mix that is put on the roads in the winter. I also wonder how much is left over. Seems mighty expensive.

Naturally there were others on road work..

    Got a clue??

I did some of this same research using public records and internet searches.
I took the Town Report and listed out “wages” and “vendor payments” by company / person then tallied them up for the past two and partial years..

Your welcome to use it as a start to add to..
Mr Frizzell and his companies were like 212,000 and Ray Davis was like 253,000

  4. Glen Stadig says:

Mike..great points as well..the shoulders do need addressing and we need some assessment.

  5. Mare says:

    Thank you Glen,

I appreciate you sharing your spread sheet. Putting together the different named companies and the owners of said companies has been interesting, to say the least.

  6. Me says:

For those looking at the town report. If the good people of lebanon voted to appropriate $366,441 for summer road repairs. How did they spend $901,916. Almost 3 times as much.

  7. chris gilpatrick says:

perhaps the new road commissioner would be interested in a road review committee that the citizens group tried starting several years ago.this is to review all roads and prioritize them on the work that needs to be done(besides ditching)to them.of course the road commissioner would be part of this group.

  8. Me says:

perhaps someone should start a citizens petition to not allow any town official or employee to spen over a certain amount of money that has not already been appropriated unless the people vote on it. That way the extra $100,000 plus the $80,000 contingency money and the $10,000 no spray money will not be spent at will.

  9. chris gilpatrick says:

along with a few others i can think of off the top of my head.

This information had crossed my desk and I thought that it would be a good idea to pass this on. Maybe it would do our town some good if our elected officials decided to make use of it.
