if elected how many family and friends can you hire as “sub-contractors”? the $1.2 million how is this divided amongest the “sub-contractors”? is it seniority on who’s milked the cash cow the longest ? is this all determined by the elected person ?
Glen,
I think its great you are getting the word out to let people know. There are good people who could fill this position, including Chris or Mark Stuart. Hopefully people come out and vote this year and we can send a message.
I look forward to seeing you nomination papers soon also Glen!!
I believe the monies for Roads certainly can be budgeted to various areas and if needed moved. However it’s the fact there is no checks and balances. At a minimum the RC should prepare a project spec for the work, get proper bids, and have the project approved by Selectmen. Then manage and report progress on the project and when done satisfactorily the RC signs off and we pay the contractor.
In recent years there has been no demonstrated plan on what maint. or improvements will be done, and there was none for the most recent 1.2 million request.
Nobody operates in this way.
If somebody want to have anything done the first thing you ask is exactly what do we want to do, what is it’s cost, how long will it take etc.? The only way to know with certainty is to write the spec for the scope of work and have it bid. Once you know you have someone to do the work and the costs, if they meet your expectations you put the plan together with the budget and put funds down to do it. Seems simple right?
We do it backwards…
I ask why give a single person a million dollars so they can keep 10-12%? The town cash machine needs to be fixed.
I am all for people doing quality work and making money… but when it is town money we need to plan, bid, budget, and execute better. We need to fix this flow.
We need to get the budget & spend methods fixed to – plan, spec, bid, budget, approve, pay.
Policy needs to be set to disallow a RC from using his own equipment and operating it when he should be writing specs, overseeing work.
It can only change with your involvement.
I still can’t believe we are fixing lower jim grant ,when the upper part is the one that needs to be fixed. any relatives on upper jim grant rd that can help me out here. The town will here my voice.
There is one thing I have to say about paving the roads. How about the large land owners having their roads around their land paved at OUR expense? I know this is done all of the time. It improves and increases the value of their properties so that when they go to sell they get more bucks. Remember, having the roads done around their properties is at OUR expense. What is wrong with that picture?
When are we, as residents, going to stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?
PAVE UPPER JIM GRANT RD. THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY. OH YEAH DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.THANKS
I think we could sell this to some tv show and make some mony for the town. this is unbelievable stuff right here.or write a book it’s so crazy.
I agree Mac…Do it the right way! We need to constructive people that will do the best for the least and focus on how to get money INTO the town instead of out of it.
