I saw this article in the newspaper today. Why do they need a new truck. I see it says all the trucks were needed for 11 fires last year, were those in different towns because the FD says they only had 2. Look at the shed fire which was a 10×12 building and it took over 45 firefighters and 14 trucks to put it out? Most towns would handle a shed fire with 1 and 6 guys. If you get there and see its a small shed, cancel the others. Do you notice this shed made it to a “Second Alarm Fire” – wow – most towns second alarm is a huge fire – but in Lebanon, its a building smaller then most cars??
We do not need ANOTHER BRAND NEW TRUCK.
Why did Acton and Newfield just buy used fire trucks older then the one we are trying to get rid of? This truck we are trying to get rid of has a brand new pump and all kinds of brand new parts so it should last. Only being needed 10 times a year, thats like $20,000 a call for the new fire truck.
How many firefighters do we have. How many are certified to drive? Not too many. How many certified firefighter 2′s?
HELP SPREAD THE WORD – NO NEW FIRE TRUCK!!!
I read that article in the Sanford Snews. We have more trucks then all the area departments mentioned. Not only do we have 4 pumpers (2 are also the more expensive pumper-tankers), we have 2 utility trucks, a boat AND a forestry.
I also saw the article about other towns buying used. We should look into that since our small fire department doesn’t have many calls. I see from other posts they have gone almost a month with ZERO calls? Lets rush to get them YET ANOTHER NEW FIRE TRUCK –
I hope the selectmen research this before recommending it – it will make me think if they are really out for the best interest of the citizens? Do one of them work for the fire truck manufacture?
I agree, spread the word, NO NEW FIRE TRUCK!! lol
Why even go, they are looking at a truck that FDNY would love to have and expect us taxpayers to pay for it? I am so turned off by the posts by whartever, just vote no, I agree!
Frankly, I have already made up my mind. I’m voting NO on the fire truck. Rescue NEEDS an ambulance much more than the fire department needs a new truck to ride in Sanford’s Parades and put out marshmellows!!!!!!! Oh wait thats camp fires to roast marshmellows lmao…………
My wife and I will also vote against a new fire truck and for the new ambulance. It is a no brainer. The ambulance generated income and a new unused fire truck consumes it.
And to be clear, I have equal respect for all the volunteers on both the fire and rescue squads. This is a matter of common sense. It is a good thing to have fewer fire calls and fewer rescue calls. But there is no charge to the homeowner when the fire dept responds to put out a fire.
I just think that due to the bad economy and the fire calls decreasing every year, we could set aside a little bit of money each year for a new truck and when we truly need one, get it. I am not anti volunteer or anti rescue or anti fire. I have used the ambulance several times. They did not charge me for my co-pay, they took what my insurance paid. I agree, I saw the article about Milton ambulance paying about 200,000 just for their towns ambulance and have a hard time getting the ambulance on the road a lot. Their revenue buys new equipment, they dont use it to pay for the operating budget. We are so fortunate to have such a great department at no cost to the town. That is why I support a new ambulance and proudly signed the ambulance petition. its a no brainer!
I agree with Kurt, my husband and I will vote AGAINST the firetruck and will vote FOR the new ambulance. One gets used frequently, one sits there waiting for the next parade! Its a no brainer – i see how busy the ambulance is, it costs nothing and it will help save my families life. No brainer to me!
I just saw on the news where Alton will be getting a grant of $43,000 for the fire department. Maybe Whartever should get the fire department to apply for one. I guess the problem would be they might not know how to get it done. I bet Samantha could show them. Also, Whart if you want numbers I think what might be appropriate for you is 911. You should try it……………..
