A person found this interesting article about google looking to provide fiber to several communities.
It’s an interesting concept that Google is putting forth, but it looks like they would like community involvement as they choose communities to install fiber in. What do you think?
I for one would be for it. Infrastructure such as this could benefit the town greatly. Incorporating well recognized educational resources for schools, providing a service better than that of Metrocast for those of us living in Lebanon consulting, and general improvement in connectivity just tip the ice-burg of why this would be a good idea for our town. Google clearly wants involvement from town officials, it would be great if the endorsement could come from them. Otherwise I hope everyone will take time to nominate Lebanon!
I wonder if our two selectmen know what google is lmao………………..I’m sorry for being so cynical!! It would definitely be a good thing. Although Metrocast has a monopoly on the area..
Monopoly: That’s why we need to nominate. The whole idea of this project is to provide choice and connectivity at a reasonable price. This is exactly the type of thing that will open up options.
I understand becoming cynical after a while. I’ve found myself falling in to that trap before. If our selectmen won’t do it, we can nominate the town ourselves.
Unfortunately they’re not a monopoly. That would make it too easy to get rid of them:)
Nobody wants to invest the $$ into our small town at this point. Be watching for FairPoint (yes, fairpoint) to be jumping into the cable tv arena in the next few years.
I think this google deal would be sweet.
Best bet is to do the nominating through the Selectmen. It will show google that the town is interested (even if the selectmen don’t do the work)
Good luck!
