Hello Mr. Wright:
I am a concerned citizen of Lebanon. I have a couple of questions for you. I’m not sure you can answer them, but if you can’t maybe you can steer me in the right direction.
We seem to be having problems with our newly elected selectman, and one other, who’s term is up in June.
Some of the citizens are concerned that the transparency in Town Government has lapsed. We used to be able to go to the selectmens meeting and tape the meetings. Once they are taped they are put on a website for all to view and for everyone to give an opinion. Things in this Town are not quite right. We ask questions of some of the selectmen and the answers are very vague or they tell us we will get right back to us, and never do.
Now all of a sudden, the selectmen have decided to make their work shop on Tuesday mornings a selectmen’s meeting. The public is invited, but what happens is that they convene for 15 minutes or so for the public, but then go into executive meetings for two or so hours. Where the public is not invited.
Also, we had a petition filed for a new ambulance and a town manager to be put on the ballet in November. All signatures were counted and turned in by the deadline. Some of the selectmen put off giving us an answer up until the last minute, therefore not letting the referendums on the ballet. They stopped the people from having a vote.
These procedures that have been happening in this town ever since the newly elected selectman has come aboard has been a severe violation of the peoples rights of Lebanon. People are up in arms. They feel that the Town is hiding something from them. I hope you understand where we are coming from.
Could you please help us in finding out who to turn to? Things need to change here in Lebanon to make it better for the citizens.
Respectfully,
Claire Henderson
