Communications This Week:

* Special thanks to the crew Thursday evening into early Friday morning when the rescue responded to a total of 5 calls in a few hours.

* Great job to all the responders that responded to the child that was struck and then pinned under the ATV on Saturday. We have heard that as of Sunday morning, the child had been released. Everyone did a great job and worked well with the crew from Life Flight. The family was very happy with the rescue members. I also understand the frustration of the responders having to wait about 23 minutes for the police to secure the scene due to a confrontation. The State Police came as quick as they could, but when a child is hurt and needs us, I understand your frustrations.

* Rescue officers need to go to the Town Hall to be sworn into their positions. Reminder, the town hall office hours have changed. They are open Mon-Weds 7a-5p and Thursday 9a-7p. (They are closed this Monday due to the holiday).

* The annual subscriptions to the ambulance service will be mailed out next week. They were dropped off on Friday to be mailed.

* Most responder’s red light permits expired 7/1/2009. Please see me to get a new-signed one.

* The rescue corporation started to sell the reflective street address signs. There have been a lot of calls lately where the ambulance was delayed in finding the patient because there were no house numbers up. We have already sold quite a few. Anyone interested in helping install them, please call me.

Past Weeks Events:

Friday/Saturday June 26th & 27th:  Assistant Chief Cole, Lieutenant Elliott, Lieutenant Romano, Rick Elliott and myself attended the Chief’s Conference in Massachusetts. We were able to see a lot of great equipment and see the latest updates.

Sunday June 28th – We had about 20 rescue responders who helped with the 2nd Mud Race of the Season. Once again the event went very well. The staff was very impressed and they received emails about our rescue people and helping people at the location. Great job!!!

Monday June 29th – The Little League had asked for the ambulance to stand by during an All Star game at the fields off of Lower Middle Road.  One patient was treated at the detail. It was a great time and nice to see the baseball game.

Monday June 29th – The rescue held its monthly meeting at 7pm. Captain Kinney also started gear inspections.

Tuesday June 30th – Several rescue members were removed from the roster for non-compliance with department regulations on medical and safety policies. Please see Lieutenant Elliott to get the necessary training completed.

Saturday, July 4th – The rescue participated in the July 4th Parade in Sanford. Several Lebanon residents commented that it was nice that our rescue was involved and represented Lebanon at the parade. Thank you to Natasha, Jon and Larry for attending the parade.

Patient Correspondence
We received three great patient surveys this week – excellent work!!

Vehicle Maintenance Issues:

Rescue 1 has been moved to bay 4.  The garage door opener at Bay 1 will be fixed soon; Captain Therrien has obtained the quote.

Station Maintenance Issues:

Captain Morrison will be working on a crew to strip and repaint the station. We will make a fun day out of it!  If interested, please call Stu.

The station looks great from all the hard work volunteers have been doing – thank you!!!

Have a safe week!!

We were visiting family in Bar Harbor this past holiday weekend. Tou our surprise, we saw a magazine at the corner store with a multi-page article in “Raising Maine” magazine which is a statewide magazine about our rescue chief!!! It was great for our town. Congratulations Samantha!

I wasn’t sure where to post this and I hope Jason sees this. My husband went down the driveway this morning 7/10/09 and saw on the tree reflective numbers for our driveway. We wanted to thank the rescue squad for doing this. We wanted to get them. We really thank all that Jason and the rescue squad has done for us.

Stated in the Rescue Chiefs report:
Tuesday June 30th – Several rescue members were removed from the roster for non-compliance with department regulations on medical and safety policies. Please see Lieutenant Elliott to get the necessary training completed.

Who dropped the ball on this one? Perhaps they were busy installing address signs that us residents should be responsible for doing ourselves. I know I know, your not supposed to say anything BAD about our beloved rescue.

Yeah it is tough to beat up a volunteer or volunteer organization.

The fact the Chief observed that some members have not maintained the required training is excellent.
It shows her system of management and maintaining training records and standards is working as it should.
Truth is “we” do not understand the details behind this training going out of spec and it could be nothing more than required training was last Friday and a couple people were on vacation and have to make it up. So I see it as nobody dropping the ball, it is the normal cycle of business.

If the State or other third party had brought the training deficiency to light then that would be a different matter and certainly point to trouble. That doesn’t appear to be the case in this instance.

I think it is great Chief Cole publishes her reports, much of which is really internal information. I would like to see ALL Town departments provide a monthly or weekly update providing a public status of happenings, projects, problems, and successes. I think it’s great your reading her reports and also visiting this website, keep up the interest, we need more involved residents like you.

Personally I don’t think Observed is being involved I think Observed was takin g a stab at our rescue organization for being caring and helping others. I also agree with you Glen that ALL town departments should be showing their reports as to what is going on there but I think that they are too buzy wondering what they can get out of the town too worry about anything else. I have one question I noticed that both you and Observed are in blue on your names what does that mean? I’m just curioius. Thanks

I must also agree, I think its great that they do these reports and when you visit their website you get a lot of information, like where they are spending their money.

I also think it is great that instead of covering up that someone missed a mandated training that they would be removed, to save the town from fines!!

I am very appreciative of all the work the rescue department does. This just shows that they are honest and open.
