Town Office Hours Extended

June 20th, 2009 by Glen Stadig --> 7 Comments

As a result of the recent referendum question to extend hours one night per week at the town office, the Lebanon Board of Selectmen have set the new hours for the town office. Starting the week of June 29th, the Lebanon Town Office will be open 7a-5p on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 9a-7p on Thursdays. We selected Thursdays after receiving feedback from several residents who get paid on Thursdays and wanted to be able to go into the town office after work. The Selectmen would also like to remind citizens that they can re-registered their vehicles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on-line. You can visit the Town of Lebanon website at www.lebanon-me.org to get more information and click on the “Rapid Renewal Button”  There are several services that you can now do on line at the convenience of your house.

    It is too bad it required a referendum to extend the hours.
    Back when the Town Hall started closing Fridays I believe, like many, the thought was the hours were being “cut”. Instead the other days of the week were extended by opening earlier. Earlier is good for those in need, but not instead of Friday.
    I would like to see the Town Hall open all business days with an early day say Mondays and a late day on Fridays. There are enough people in there, lets get them trained and spread coverage out.
    If we have to stay closed a day…Close Wednesday.

    There are several reasons for not getting a response, least of which is your comment was gobbled up by activity and other postings so it was missed.

    You can re-post a question / comment on an article perhaps to reiterate your request for an answer. I ask you don’t do this continually all over several posts since it becomes sort of a spam.

    I would suggest to logging in a posting an “article”, versus a “comment” if your question is topical. In many cases when comments go on and on off of a post, the Topic changes so it could be missed.

    I am looking into integrating “Forum” features to this website and chat, both of which would provide more communication options to everyone. These would make Q&A more direct.

    Thanks for responding so quickly. I sometimes speak my fingers boldly. I hope I didn’t offend anyone. chat and forum features would be a great thing. Thanks again Glen you have cleared some things up for me. Great job on the web site.

    Maybe if we do a petition asking the town hall to be open Tuesday Through Saturday Noon-8pm, or something like that, then we can all go after work. They must keep records, I would like to see how many people actually go early like the ladies say. There must be a way to check this like receipts. I drive by everyday going to work and there are never any customers there, just the same workers (which, are too many while we are on the topic!) Lets save some money and either close the town hall to 4 eight hours days or open the town hall 5 days a week. Most towns our size seem to be able to handle it with 3 days open.

    Why are they closed Fridays? How many places close Fridays? It makes no sense.

    Sorry, Rural, those hours wouldn’t work for me. I am one of those people that go in first thing in the morning. I get the kids on the bus, and do all my errands before heading into work at 9:30. I like Mr. Stadig’s idea of staggering the hours, some days open early and some days open late. It seems it would be the most flexable for people’s different schedules.

    Maybe they could adopt the same hours as the transfer station. Those seem to be working for people.

    I would love to see the town hall open on Friday and Saturday. Even if only open like 8a-noon on Saturday.

    Why close Fridays? Why not Wednesdays.

    I also think they should stagger the hours, like 7a-3p some days and noon-8 some others and be open 5 days a week including Saturdays.
