There is a very informative book on the Local Government in Maine. It is made available by the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) free for educational purposes. The book it is very informative and provides a broad background on types of government in Maine and there unique structures.
It is an easy read and is available in PDF format. The MMA is a great resource and is used by many municipalities as a resource for training and education.
The history of how the book was put together and the persons involved is available here at the MMA website.

Thank You!…
I am only a one person looking to make improvement in Town, I don’t have the “answers” or all the “how to” but I do have desire and a will to make our community better.
The truly fortunate thing is “We” have “You!” and so many others like you who can see a better future for our Community.
During this past election most of the persons I met felt exactly the same as me and I appreciated their well wishes and encouragement.
My hopes are that You and the many others in town will exercise your civil liberty and become more involved. This involvement doesn’t need to be hours and hours, it is whatever you can do.
Together we can make a difference, and we do have a voice. It not about me it is about “We” and “Us”.
I will do all I can for improved Information exchange, Education, Organization, Ethics, and Transparency. However, “We” need to work together, everyone, to make things happen and improve for the better.
I hope we have a large turnout for the July 1st meeting and even a bigger one for the meeting after that…
I am pleased that so many residents have come forward to read, share ideas, watch the videos, and commiserate views on our town, on this website. It is precisely why it was started.
So to Pat and the rest of you residents who are becoming more active…Welcome and THANK YOU!!!!!! for taking an active part in your towns future.

It is unfortuate that the Town Manager position was voted down. Perhaps people in town do not know that a Town Manager would bring in much more money than they would cost the town. I think it does not pass because people think it is another paid position to cost tax dollars. However, as I said, this would be a worthwhile investment to the town. We would get more grants etc.

Thanks Glen for posting this ebook. I read it last night and it is very informative. I encourage all the Citizens of Lebanon to take the time to read it…. if you plan to attend the July 1st Citizens Roundtable it will help you understand why we want to look at putting a Charter committee together.
Everyone should know how exactly their local government is run and this is a great overview.
The Charter for Freeport Maine was also impressive (on their town website under documents). Reading this will also give you an idea of what a well written plan can do for a town.
Please, if you want to be an informed voter, take the time to educate yourselves and read these two documents.

The good ol’boys will fight us hard they don’t want a town charter here. They don’t want anyone to know what they are REALLY doing …..There was a lady who got a job in the town hall and when she realized that they were not doing things so honest she started complaining and they ousted her but fast……… I am ready to help in any way I can. I also have an idea on how to get the word out about our roundtable July 1. Thanks Glen and to all those who want a better Lebanon…..
