ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – Looking to Help a Maine Family

To All Rescue Members and Community Members:

I received this email tonight. ABC’s Home Make Over is coming to Maine and they are looking for a family to help. I have to submit info by this Saturday!!! Can you think of a family in town that we can submit. Please pass this on to your friends and anyone you know so we can try to submit a deserving family. I have a couple of ideas, but there are legal issues possibly with the properties, so I am not sure they would fly. They are looking for everyday hero’s or members who help their communities.

This is a great way to get Lebanon on the map in a good way and bring the community together.
(I already tried to get a new station, and all though very deserving, it won’t fly – it has to be  a family/residence).
Stephen Pleadwell asked me to help get the word out that Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming to Maine and needs your help to locate a deserving family! I just heard from them today and the deadline is very tight- 3/28/09! Stephen is the casting producer in charge of finding a place somewhere in Maine to do.

Here is his email that was sent to us this evening. We have confirmed it is legitimate through ABC and the Maine Governors Office.

My name is Stephen Pleadwell and I’m a casting producer on ABC’s Emmy-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which rallies communities to volunteer time, labor and materials to (re)build houses for those among them in need. Our program has helped Americans from all walks of life whose homes presented them with potentially insurmountable challenges- we’ve helped families address everything from needing more room to take in orphaned relatives to rebuilding after a natural disaster to creating a completely handicap-accessible living space after an injury. Our currently airing 6th season has a “Heroes” theme- we’ve focused on helping those people who spend a significant portion of their own time helping or serving others, often regardless of their own needs. The producers of the show want to continue to showcase these inspiring stories in Season Seven, which they hope will continue to encourage everyone to give back to those around them.

Although they often don’t get the same accolades that one might for rescuing someone from a burning building, we know that individuals who volunteer and organize service in their communities are some of the most inspiring heroes to those who know them. I know that your organization is plugged into a large network of volunteer organizations throughout the nation and, because of that, might be able to help us reach those local heroes who need our help (or others in the community who can bring those families to our attention, as we frequently find that even those who greatly need a helping hand will think that others are in greater need).

I know that you have many greater concerns than those of any television show but I believe that this program is in a position to not only showcase public service but to really help people who are deserving of assistance. Any assistance that you can offer in getting the word out to volunteer, service, and community-building organizations would be deeply appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I hope to be able to speak with you soon.

Sincerely Yours,
Stephen Pleadwell
